Acne can be divided into two main groups; Non inflammatory, such as white heads, black heads; and inflammatory, such as inflammatory papules, pustules, and cysts. Mostly it affects the face, but sometimes it occurs on upper arms and back. When skin pores become blocked, filled with dirt and oil, they become inflamed and turn into cysts. These pores have swelling on them and look like red bumps. And you should also remember they are difficult to treat.  Acne is common in teenager. About 70 to 78 percent teenagers get acne every year.

Causes of Acne

There are many causes of acne but main factors include oil production cells, dead skin cells, blocked pores, bacteria. When your body produces an extra level of oil and dead skin cells, they form a soft atmosphere where bacteria can increase and pores become inflammatory. Acne is turned into red spots with a white center and lump beneath the surface of the skin. A number of hormones that cause enlargement of sebum glands named Androgens. Low levels of hormones can cause acne. Some steroids containing drugs can cystic acne. Our dietary habits such as dairy food, bread, chips, oily food, chocolate, unhygienic food may worsen the acne. Dirty skin, can cause acne, scrubbing the skin too hard and use of soaps and chemicals can make acne poorer than ever. In women wrong use of cosmetics may lead to cystic acne. They should remove makeup with oil free lotions every day. If you have a family history of acne, you are likely to have it because genetics play a role. The most common treatment is topical creams, gels, and lotions. These are starting from vitamin A and retinoid. You apply this medicine three or two times daily. Antibiotics work by killing harmful bacteria and reducing infections. In case of antibiotics are not working, the doctor may prescribe for women and the elder girls to take an anti -androgen agent. Another noteworthy procedure is chemical therapy. Cystic acne can be treated with steroid injections also.

Due to the hazardous side effects of treatments like Acutance (Isotrenion), people are now switching back to holistic alternative treatments for acne such as Manuka Honey, Tea Tree Oil, Moroccan Rhassoul Clay, Green Tea extracts, and Willow Bark. It is well known fact in Chinese medicine that dairy products and sugars cause “phlegm” which is a leading cause of cystic acne. Therefore, people with cystic acne should avoid dairy such as milk, cheese and ice cream. While sugar on the other hand, causes “dampness” which is the base for the development of cystic acne. The hidden cause of acne is our own inner body so the best way to avoid can is to make changes on one’s diet. To avoid inflammatory acne, one should avoid spicy and hot foods; for oily skin, avoid fatty and fried food. You must use your common sense when it comes to choose right food that will work for you.
